A Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Health Policy (DHP). We seek to promote evidence-based health policy at the global, national, state, and local levels through rigorous research and the training of students for health policy roles in academia, government, and the private sector. Located in the heart of Virginia’s state capital, Richmond, DHP is uniquely positioned to assist state government in the development and evaluation of policies and programs designed to promote health and improve quality of care, efficient allocation of resources, and health equity. Our diverse faculty and students conduct cutting-edge research using a variety of rigorous methodologies, including quantitative analysis of large, complex health databases to evaluate health policies. The training and experiences that our Ph.D. students receive through their coursework and graduate research work with faculty lead to a nearly 100% placement rate of our graduates in academic, government, and private sector research positions.
