Qualifications
The program maintains rigorous standards for its doctoral students. Applicant qualifications include:
- Master's degree in a related discipline (e.g., economics, public health, public policy, health administration, public administration) from an accredited institution
- Relevant quantitative, economics, and policy coursework or professional experience in a health-related field (2 years preferred)
- A college course in calculus with a grade of 'B' or better
- GRE scores in 75th percentile preferred, with an analytic writing score of 4.5 preferred
- A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (79 internet based)
Application Requirements
- Online application submitted to the VCU Graduate School
Before an application is reviewed, the following supporting documents must be submitted. All supporting documents for the application should be mailed in one envelope to: Kate Grant, P.O. Box 980430, Richmond, VA 23298.
- Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions previously or currently attended;
- Official Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores from within the past 5 years (VCU code 5570)
- Official TOEFL scores (international applicants only)
- Three letters of recommendation
- Written statement of professional intent that identifies a proposed research area and the faculty member with whom the student would like to work
- Curriculum Vitae or resume
- Writing sample (e.g., first-author, peer-reviewed publication, Master's thesis, book chapter, policy brief or report, or if none of the preceding are available, a graduate course paper)
